ABS refers to Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene copolymer, a thermoplastic polymer structural material with high strength, excellent toughness and easy processability, also known as ABS resin.

Properties

General Properties

ABS engineering plastic is an opaque, ivory-colored granular material. Its products can be dyed in a wide range of colors and feature high glossiness. With a relative density of around 1.05, ABS has low water absorption. It demonstrates good compatibility with other materials, facilitating surface printing, coating and plating processes.
Mechanical Properties

ABS boasts outstanding mechanical properties, especially excellent impact strength that allows it to be used at extremely low temperatures. It also has superior wear resistance, good dimensional stability and oil resistance, making it suitable for manufacturing bearings operating under medium load and rotational speed conditions.
Thermal Properties

The heat deflection temperature of ABS ranges from 93℃ to 118℃, which can be further increased by approximately 10℃ after annealing treatment. Retaining a certain degree of toughness even at -40℃, ABS can be used within a temperature range of -40℃ to 100℃.
Electrical Properties

ABS has good electrical insulation, which is hardly affected by temperature, humidity or frequency, enabling its application in most environments.
Environmental Properties

ABS is resistant to water, inorganic salts, alkalis and various acids, but it is soluble in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Stress cracking may occur when it is exposed to glacial acetic acid, vegetable oil and other corrosive substances. ABS has poor weather resistance and is prone to degradation under ultraviolet light; its impact strength will decrease by half after six months of outdoor exposure.

The largest application fields of ABS resin include automobiles, electronic appliances, building materials and DIY manufacturing. In the automotive industry, it is used to produce numerous components such as instrument panels, exterior body panels, interior trim panels, steering wheels, sound insulation boards, door locks, bumpers and ventilation ducts. In the electrical sector, it is widely applied in household appliances and office equipment including refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, air conditioners, computers and copiers. For building materials, ABS pipes, sanitary ware and decorative panels are extensively used in the construction industry. In DIY production, it is adopted to make items like aircraft model wings. In addition, ABS is also widely used in packaging, furniture, sports and recreational products, as well as the machinery and instrument industries.
