Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene - UHMWPE

The extremely high molecular weight of UHMWPE (ranging from 800,000 to 1,500,000) endows it with excellent performance. As a thermoplastic engineering plastic with moderate price and outstanding properties, it almost integrates the advantages of various plastics, including comprehensive characteristics such as wear resistance, impact resistance, self-lubrication, corrosion resistance, impact energy absorption, low-temperature resistance, hygiene and non-toxicity, low adhesion, low water absorption, and low density.

Key Properties

Wear Resistance: Wear resistance is proportional to molecular weight—the higher the molecular weight, the more excellent the wear resistance, which is comparable to that of metals.
Impact Resistance: The impact strength of UHMWPE is 2 times that of PC, 5 times that of ABS, and more than 10 times that of POM. Its impact strength also increases with the rise of molecular weight.
Self-Lubrication: It has an extremely low friction coefficient (0.05-0.11), so its self-lubricating performance is excellent—second only to PTFE under non-lubricated conditions.
Chemical Resistance: Except for strong oxidizing acid solutions, it can resist various corrosive media (acids, alkalis, salts) within a certain temperature and concentration range.
Impact Energy Absorption: It has the highest impact energy absorption value among all plastics, thus exhibiting good sound attenuation effect.
Low-Temperature Resistance: It maintains ductility even at the liquid helium temperature of -269°C.

With its excellent properties, UHMWPE is used to manufacture parts such as seals, anti-wear/wear-resistant strips, sealing rings, joints, guide wheels, pulleys, gears, gaskets/washers, sliders, bushings, bearings, and plain bearings. These parts are applied in general machinery industries including textile machinery, papermaking machinery, packaging machinery, agricultural machinery, and construction machinery.
