Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

Polytetrafluoroethylene (abbreviated as PTFE) is characterized by its resistance to acids, alkalis and various organic solvents. It also boasts excellent heat and cold resistance, enabling long-term use within a temperature range of -180℃ to 260℃. Meanwhile, PTFE has high temperature resistance and an extremely low friction coefficient, making it ideal for lubrication applications.

Characteristics of PTFE

  1. High Temperature Resistance — Can operate continuously at temperatures up to 250℃.
  2. Low Temperature Resistance — Possesses excellent mechanical toughness; it can maintain 5% elongation even when the temperature drops to -196℃.
  3. Corrosion Resistance — Inert to most chemicals and solvents, withstanding strong acids, strong alkalis, water and various organic solvents.
  4. Weather Resistance — Offers the best aging resistance among all plastics.
  5. High Lubricity — Features the lowest friction coefficient among solid materials.
  6. Non-adhesiveness — Has the minimum surface tension among solid materials, preventing adhesion to any substance.
  7. Non-toxicity — Exhibits physiological inertness, allowing long-term implantation in the human body as artificial blood vessels and organs without adverse reactions.
  8. Electrical Insulation — Can withstand high voltage of 1500 volts.

Application Scope of PTFE

  1. Electrical Industry
     
    Used in aerospace, aviation, electronics, instrumentation, computers and other industries as insulating layers for power and signal lines, as well as corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials. It can be processed into films, tubes, sheets, rods, bearings, gaskets, valves, and linings for chemical pipes, pipe fittings and equipment containers.
  2. Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace, Machinery and Other Fields
     
    It replaces quartz glassware for ultrapure chemical analysis and storage of various acids, alkalis and organic solvents in atomic energy, medical, semiconductor and other industries. It can be made into high-insulation electrical parts, high-frequency wire and cable sheaths, corrosion-resistant chemical vessels, low-temperature-resistant oil pipelines, artificial organs, etc. It can also serve as an additive for plastics, rubbers, coatings, inks, lubricating oils, greases and other products.
