Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS)

Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) is a new type of high-performance thermoplastic resin, boasting excellent properties such as high mechanical strength, heat resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardancy, good thermal stability, and superior electrical performance. With a heat distortion temperature generally exceeding 260°C, its chemical resistance is second only to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and its fluidity is second only to nylon. As one of the engineering plastics with the best heat resistance, modified PPS varieties are poised to become the sixth-largest engineering material.

Product Features:

  1. Suitable for special engineering plastic injection molding and precision machining, requiring no special processing equipment.
  2. Excellent flame retardancy: among plastics, it ranks as a high flame-retardant material.
  3. Outstanding thermal performance: capable of withstanding 260°C for short periods and continuous use at 200~240°C.
  4. Superior chemical corrosion resistance: its chemical stability is second only to PTFE, with excellent radiation resistance.

Limitations:

Relatively high price—while it is cost-effective among high-temperature resistant materials, it is significantly more expensive than general-purpose engineering plastics; poor toughness and brittleness; unstable medium viscosity. Pure PPS is rarely used due to its brittleness, so most applied PPS products are modified varieties.

Application Fields:

  • Electronics: High-voltage components, housings, sockets, terminal posts for televisions and computers; starter coils, blades, brush holders, and rotor insulation parts for motors; contact switches, relays, electric irons, hair dryers, lamp holders, heaters, and Class F films.
  • Automotive Industry: Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves, water pump impellers, carburetors, exhaust systems, exhaust gas control valves, light reflectors, bearings, and sensor components.
  • Mechanical Industry: Bearings, pumps, valves, pistons, precision gears; components for copiers, cameras, and computers; conduits, sprayers, fuel injectors, and instrument parts.
  • Chemical Industry: Acid and alkali resistant valves, pipes, pipe fittings, gaskets, and corrosion-resistant components such as submersible pumps or impellers.
  • Engineering Plastics: Manufacturing automotive parts, anti-corrosion coatings, and electrical insulation materials.
  • Environmental Protection: PPS fiber filter media, used in high-temperature harsh working conditions in industries such as smelting, chemical engineering, building materials, thermal power generation, waste incinerators, and coal-fired boilers—an efficient and high-quality high-temperature resistant filter material.
  • Tableware: Production of chopsticks, spoons, bowls, plates, and other tableware items.
