Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene - UHMWPE

The ultra-high molecular weight of UHMWPE (ranging from 800,000 to 1,500,000) endows it with excellent performance characteristics. As a cost-effective thermoplastic engineering plastic with outstanding properties, it integrates the advantages of various plastics: excellent wear resistance, high impact resistance, self-lubrication, corrosion resistance, high impact energy absorption, low-temperature resistance, hygienic non-toxicity, low adhesion tendency, low water absorption, and low density.

Key Properties

Wear Resistance: Wear resistance is directly proportional to molecular weight—the higher the molecular weight, the more superior the wear resistance, which is comparable to that of metals.
Impact Resistance: The impact strength of UHMWPE is twice that of PC, five times that of ABS, and over ten times that of POM. Moreover, its impact strength increases with the rise of molecular weight.
Self-Lubrication: With an extremely low coefficient of friction (0.05–0.11), UHMWPE exhibits excellent self-lubricating performance, second only to PTFE under non-lubricated conditions.
Chemical Resistance: Except for strong oxidizing acids, UHMWPE can resist various corrosive media (acids, alkalis, salts) within a certain temperature and concentration range.
Impact Energy Absorption: It has the highest impact energy absorption value among all plastics, thus offering good noise reduction effects.
Low-Temperature Resistance: It maintains ductility even at the temperature of liquid helium (-269°C).

Application Industries

Thanks to its outstanding properties, UHMWPE is used to manufacture components such as seals, anti-wear strips, sealing rings, joints, guide wheels, pulleys, gears, gaskets, sliders, bushings, bearings, and axle bushes. These components are widely applied in general machinery sectors including textile machinery, papermaking machinery, packaging machinery, agricultural machinery, and construction machinery.
